How to download mp3 from YouTube with up to 320 kb/s

YouTube nowadays isn't used to just share videos, but also music. I prefer to have high quality music stored in my devices. When I try to use services that convert YouTube videos to mp3 I usually end up with low quality songs with a rate of 128 kb/s.

After a lot of searching for a free and convenient way to download with high quality I found one site called youtubemp3pro.com. It allows you to decide what bitrate you will use 128, 192 or 320 kb/s.

How to use it?

You can add it as a bookmark to your browser. It supports Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera. After installing it, it is pretty and intuitive to use. you just select the bit-rate and press Download mp3.

You can also download the software for Windows from here.

Or if you don't want to add extra software to your PC or to your browser you can do it this way:

type http://www.youtubemp3pro.com/#"the link of the video without quotation marks"#qualityXXX

instead of XXX you should write 128 or 192 or 320.

Enjoy your music!

How to kill a program in Linux

Before starting the post I want to tell everyone that I use Linux as my primary OS. More specifically I use Linux Mint. The simplicity and user friendliness of this OS are really astonishing.

Even though it is a pretty stable system, errors and problems are bound to appear once in a while. For example a program might freeze. People accustomed to windows will look for a task bar, but since there is none, they often get stuck.

After some research I found an efficient way to kill any frozen program.

xkill

1. Open a terminal. Either by pressing Ctlr+Alt+t, or Alt+F2 and typing gnome-terminal in it.

2. In the terminal type sudo xkill *, then using your mouse cursor click on the program that you want to kill.

* You will be required to input your password like with any other command that requires administrative rights. (that contains "sudo" in it)

There are other ways to kill a frozen program, but I prefer this one since it more user friendly.

Viber expands to the Desktop

Today i was just browsing my Facebook, when I see a notification: "Viber has changed its cover photo". I went ahead and checked it out and I noticed Viber running in a desktop environment. I thought it was a joke since Viber until now has been a mobile only software. But it is true. Viber is now available for the desktop.

This is the Facebook cover that i saw. There you can see Viber installed in a Mac. It is also available for Windows. Actually to get the Mac version you have to dig a little bit deeper in the website.

If you want to check it out just click the link below.

'Wheezy' released, Debian 7.0

The world of Operating Systems is filled with animals. Along with mountain lions, raring ringtails, pangolins, etc, from today there will be also some Wheezies out there. Well a Wheezy is really an animal but a toy penguin from Toy Story. For me it still counts.

7.0 is a stable version. It includes various features such as an improved installer, a complete set of multimedia codecs, multiarch support and several specific tools to deploy private clouds.

"Multiarch support, one of the main release goals for Wheezy, will allow Debian users to install packages from multiple architectures on the same machine. This means that you can now, for the first time, install both 32- and 64-bit software on the same machine and have all the relevant dependencies correctly resolved, automatically"

This is what the official post says. The article there is somewhat more lengthy. A whole list of changes is there. If you want to give it a look and also try this new version of Debian, just click the link below at the sources.

Samsung Galaxy S4: 4 or 8 Cores? Does it really matter?

The Samsung galaxy S4 is one of the most awaited android smartphones of the year. Now its finally on sale(in some countries). With a price that is around $700, it promises to be the best selling android smartphone to date. Samsung is aiming to sell around 100 million copies. it is offering the S4 in two variants, not out of desire but out of lack of parts. One variant is packing the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor against the other one that packs the Exynos Octa. But what does it really make a difference for the user?

According to co-CEO of Samsung Electronics J. K. Shin it isn't. He didn't go into details though. Some might say that its only marketing, Samsung doesn't want the users to pay attention only to the S4 variant with eight cores, and all the rest of them to remain unsold. I am telling you that for once the BIG company is telling you the truth(well most of it though).

The Exynos Octa indeed has four cores more than the Snapdragon 600, but it uses only four cores at a time. The chip has four Cortex A7 cores and four Cortex A15. These cores have different features. The A15 is way better in terms of performance, but the A7 is a lot better in terms of battery life. In a scale of 0-100, the A15 uses 100 battery and the A7 uses 30(as seen on the demonstration made from Samsung). The A7 cores are used for processes such as playing videos or lightweight applications to save battery life. On the other hand when the users wants to play games or other resource hungry apps the A15 cores step up. It is a very clever combination or as Samsung calls it big.LITTLE. Having said that this is a new technology and isn't perfect. There are still some issues but lets leave those to the technicians. What matters is what comes to our hands and what we can do with it.

Conclusion:

So a simple way to put it is this: You will use only four cores regardless of the Galaxy S4 variant you have. So the speed that your phone is going to play videos, games, open webpages or anything else will be almost the same.
